MiKE and I live in Tallahassee, FL. It is a small city in north Florida, and is far more "Southern" in flavor than Orlando, which is five hours south of here. We enjoy this sweet little village, which has both all the charm and all the drawbacks of small town living. Our pickings:
Restaurants We Love:
- Shenanigan's (Irish Pub; chef Cindy is a whiz in the kitchen! Best pizza in town, but also excellent Irish fare like shephards pie and fish'n'chips)
- Saharah (Lebanese/Middle Eastern; fantastic gyro meat and awesome humus! I particularly love the lentil soup with fried pita chips)
- Ted's Montana Grill (I think it is a chain, but in any case, great vegetables — the squash cassarole is a must — and MiKE swears by the bison meatloaf)
- Gill's Tavern (kind of Irish in flavor; I mostly go there for the Burgundy sauteed mushrooms. Mmmmmm!!)
- Sub-Sational Sub Shop (NY style sub shop that uses Boar's Head meats and cheeses; great subs! Only open for lunch)
- El Tapatio (Mexican; we are addicted to the cheese quesadilla's, which are really just Mexican grilled cheese sandwiches)
- Decent Pizza (a great pizza joint; we love the 'downtown' hip atmosphere as much as the pizza)
- Samrat (Indian; best Indian in town)
- Cabo's (bar, but serves good tacos)
- Bamboo House (Everyone in Tally agrees that this is the best Chinese restuarant in town for a reason)
Otherwise there isn't much to do here. Our nightclub of choice is, twice a month when DJ Evil Eno spins 80s, Waterworks on Thomasville. Finnegan's Wake is pretty but very full of pretentious preppies and Fusion is too pretty. Leon Pub is too smokey, although they do have the best beer selection in town…which isn't saying much. Tally isn't much by way of beer, I warn you now. We avoid the college haunts like the plague because the children annoy us.
Eh. That's it.
